Breaking the Cycle: SPAC Symposium Empowers Students to Combat Drugs, Crime, and Explosive Threats

The Guidance and Counseling Center, together with the Regional Police Security and Protection Unit 12, organized a Symposium on Drug Abuse Awareness, Crime Prevention, and Bomb and Explosives Education at the South Philippine Adventist College Gymnasium. The event, with the theme "Breaking the Cycle: Combating Crimes, Illicit Drugs, and Explosive Threats," aimed to inform students and encourage them to take action for their safety and security.

The symposium covered important topics such as drug abuse, focusing on illegal drugs, their causes, methods of use, and their harmful effects on health and the community. PCOL Reynaldo V. Denila Jr. and other speakers highlighted how young people are often the primary targets of drug abuse and explained the protections provided under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Other members of the team present during the event included PCPT Alfred Y. Patron, Admin Officer (Lecturer on Drug Awareness); PSSg Hazel May G. Migalbin, Operations Officer PNCO (Lecturer on Anatomy of Crime); PCMS Gary V. Cercado, PCR PNCO; PSMS Christine M. Bejarin, WCCD PNCO; and PMSg Arthur P. Saavedra.

The team also discussed the dangers of bombs and explosives, emphasizing their potential harm to individuals and communities. They explained the penalties for crimes involving explosives under the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines. Participants were reminded to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The symposium ended with a strong message about shared responsibility in tackling these issues. Students were encouraged to use the knowledge they gained to protect themselves and contribute to the safety of their community. The event inspired everyone to work together to prevent crime and substance abuse, paving the way for a safer future.
