Looking Back at 2020

SPAC looks back at 2020 with many blissful memories to celebrate with. Nothwistnding the three (3) successive earthquakes that took SPAC by surprise and badly damaged most of our buidings at the closing month of 2019; and thereafter came covid-19 that emptied our campus of students starting March of 2020 ’till now, SPAC still remains in awe of God’s greatness.

During these times of historic crisis, our sister instituions such as Davao Mission, South Philippine Union Conference, and Southern Asia Pacific Division have never failed us in helping us in rebuild our school through their generous givings. We thank our alumni and friends too for their support and prayers.

At the present, there are twenty (20) state-of-the-art classrooms amidst nature that are now on its completion stage alongside the gymnasium that is hoped to serve as temporary place of worship for students and faculty alike when physcial classes resume. Further, our new dormitory is undergoing repair and is nearing completion.

2020 is the best year so far to remember God’s greatness shown at SPAC. We are one in believing that 2021 will be far more better for SPAC because our work here is God’s and not ours.

SPAC Congratulates Pr. Joel Escobidal On His Ordination

South Philippine Adventist College  rejoices over the ordination of one its longest serving workers in the campus, Pr. Joel Zacharias Escobidal, which was held in Digos SDA Center Church on September 5, 2020. It came as a momentous and special experience for him as he was the only candidate receiving the rite of ordination that day with select friends and guests in attendance. This event was graced with the presence of no less than the President of South Philippine Union Conference, Pastor/Elder Roger Caderma, as its speaker. Elder Caderma pounded on the importance of servanthood leadership whose highest agendum is to serve and be faithful to Jesus Christ.  Accompanying Elder Roger Caderma were also officers from SPUC, namely  Pastor Danielo Palomares, SPUC Secretary; Pastor Alex Necesario, Ministerial Secretary; Pastor Rudy G. Jimenez, Stewardship/Legal and Trust Director. They were also joined by their supportive wives.  Representing Davao Mission was Pastor Seth Suan, Ministerial Secretary, who likewise took part in the presentation of candidate and his family.

Teary eyed, Pr. Joel Escobidal on his closing remarks said that his ordination is a “testimony of God’s saving grace.”  The whole family of Pr. Escobidal joined him in profound gratitude to those Pastors and friends who were instrumental in seeing God’s  calling for him despite the odds he went through that almost cost his religious life.

Godspeed, Pastor Joel Escobidal!

Despite two major setbacks that SPAC has experienced this year and last year, it still opens the school year 2020-2021 with high spirit as the faculty and staff are unfazed by the pandemic. Preparedness is the key to their positive attitude which has been supplanted by extensive training and hands-on exposure to different platforms for remote teaching experience in the new normal. Teachers had been into rigid training, especially on making modules, for the past three (3) months starting from the month of May this year.

Likewise, improvement and raising of internet bandwidth in the campus is also in place for a smooth delivery of lessons online. Based on initial reports, students are receiving and engaging with their lessons satisfactorily. However, Virtual Orientation programs in all levels were already completed on schedule, a week before the opening of  classes. SPAC is ready!

SPAC holds Student Week of Devotion

SPAC holds Student Week of Devotion this week in all levels despite absence of a decent hall of worship after it was destroyed by a strong earthquake last December 15, 2019. Students of every department find appropriate place of worship either under the trees or in some confined spaces used as temporary classrooms during regular classes. Because of this situation, many students have been given the chance to speak during the morning and afternnon worship sessions that will culminate on Saturday morning, March 1, 2020.

Further, speakers have been given sermon outlines prepared for them by the office of the VP Religious of the CSG in coordination with the office of the VPSS. This is the first time that students hold Student Week of Devotion in different locations in the campus simultaneously.
The theme for this year’s Student Week of Devotion is, “Who is Jesus?”

Elementary Department applies for accreditation

The elementary department of SPAC welcomed accreditors of AAA composed of education directors of the different Missions or Conferences in Mindanao for the accreditation of the said department, the very first. This is part of the continuing thrust of making the elementary department to be become more competent in the delivery of its overall services to its students. This accreditation from the accreditating agency of the church will now become regular as part of its mandate. The team of accreditators was headed by Dr. de Asis, Education Director of SPUC.

SPAC enrolment continues to exceed projection

SPAC enrolment continues to exceed projection

By Princess Mae Caliusan (BSE, major in English)

A marked increase in enrolment over last year in almost every department of the College is shown by the figures for the first one month of registration as compared with the same period of last year. But for schools dealing with capacity issues, such as SPAC, fitting more students more than what it can hold can be a big challenge.

This year, South Philippine Adventist College reported an enrolment of 1, 548 students from Kindergarten to College. So far, 662 of which are registered from College Department alone. It is almost 100% increase from last year’s enrolment figures.Continue Reading
